Bonsai Outliner for Palm OS > How Do I ... ? > Setup my New Palm Device

Our recommendation to customers who are upgrading to a new handheld is to keep their original HotSync username by using the Palm Desktop to rename the old profile. This is different than picking the original HotSync name during the first sync which is not recommended by Palm or Natara. Full details can be found on our web site here including a short video of the procedure.

Install Bonsai on the new Palm by using Explorer and browse to the installation folder (C:\Program Files\Natara\Bonsai by default) and double click the Bonsai.PRC file. Quick Installer will launch. Click OK to queue the Bonsai installation after verifying the correct HotSync user is selected. Connect the handheld to your desktop and run HotSync to install Bonsai to the Palm device.

If you keep the same name, the next HotSync will send your outlines to your device. If you picked a new name, you will need to open this user in Bonsai on the PC by using the "File/Select User" menu, open each of your outlines and then enable synchronization for each of these outlines you wish to synchronize to your Palm. Do this by using Outline Manager (if not visible, use the View/Outline Manager menu to enable) and select all of the outlines to synchronize, right click and select the Synchronize menu item to enable synchronization. If Outline Manager does not list your outline, close the outline and then reopen it in Bonsai. This will add it to the Outline Manager.

Note that the software registration number is generated based off the Palm HotSync name. If you decide to use a new HotSync username, you will need a new Bonsai registration number.
