How Do I.... > Backup my database

It is important to have a backup copy of all your DayNotez™ data particularly if you do not synchronize with the PC version of DayNotez™. There is software available to backup your handheld data to a storage card. Some handheld manufacturers bundle this software with your handheld device or there are many commercial choices available online. If the backup software fails to make a copy of the DayNotez™ database because the file is locked, you will need to quit DayNotez™ (enter CTRL-Q from the soft keyboard at the DayNotez™ screen to force it to exit) before you perform the backup.

If you synchronize DayNotez™ to a desktop PC, your notes, templates and categories are copied on the desktop. Some settings, such as user-defined filters, and any program options (everything configured under Tools/Options menu) would not be copied. To fully protect DayNotez™ on your handheld it is best to backup the following two (2) files:

1.\My Documents\Natara\DayNotez\DayNotezDb3.sdf (this is the database)
2.\My Documents\Natara\DayNotez\Options.xml (these are your preferences)

Note: Listed here is the default location for the database and preference files. If you store your database on a storage card, your path might look like this: "\SD Card\Natara DayNotez Data\DayNotezDb3.sdf". Follow these same instructions and adjust the path accordingly.

ss_hintTip: The database DayNotez™ v1.0 and v1.1 used was called DayNotezDb.sdf. When installing DayNotez v1.5 and beyond, your exist database will be upgraded to the new format and named DayNotezDb3.sdf. Once your have verified that DayNotez™ has successfully upgraded your database, the old copy of the database (DayNotezDb.sdf) can be deleted.
