DayNotez™ can run on your handheld device exclusively or you have the option to also run it on your desktop PC. The following steps will get you up and running with DayNotez™ either way.

 

1.Connect your Pocket PC to your desktop PC and ensure the device has an ActiveSync connection.
2.Launch the DayNotez™ setup file to start the installation wizard. Follow the wizard instructions, reviewing the license agreement and selecting the installation directory.

3.Select the components to be installed.
DayNotez for Pocket PC Software - A required component that installs the DayNotez™ software to the Pocket PC.
DayNotez Desktop and Synchronization Support - Optional component that must be installed if you wish to access your DayNotez™ information from the desktop.

ss_hint Tip: DayNotez™ is sold both as a handheld only application and bundled with the DayNotez™ Desktop software. If you are evaluating/purchasing "DayNotez for Pocket PC (Pocket PC application only)", deselect the DayNotez Desktop and Synchronization Support component. If you are evaluating/purchasing "DayNotez for Pocket PC Desktop Edition" leave this component enabled.

 

4.The Ready to Install page shows a summary of the options you selected and gives you one last chance to make any changes.

5.The DayNotez™ software is installed to your PC. Once installed, the deployment wizard's welcome screen is displayed. This will install DayNotez™ to your Pocket PC.

Picking the Skip option will allow you to complete the Pocket PC installation at a later time. You will be prompted if the deployment should be started the next time a Pocket PC device connects to ActiveSync. Picking yes will exit the wizard but it will be restarted when a device connects, allowing you to continue the installation at that time. Selecting no will quit the wizard. You may use the "Install DayNotez on PPC OS Device" shortcut to restart the wizard at a later time. Picking cancel will return you to the deployment wizard.

6.The deployment wizard accesses the Pocket PC device and determines which software needs to be installed.

ss_hintTip: If this step is taking a very long time to complete, check your ActiveSync connection and verify your handheld  is communicating with your PC.

 

7.The "Ready to Install" screen displays a summary of the software to be installed to the Pocket PC device. Tap Install to begin the installation.

8.The "Installing" screen provides feedback on the installation progress.

During this time the ActiveSync Application Manager window (Add/Remove Programs Window Title) will appear, prompting you if the software should be installed to the default application install directory. Tap Yes to install DayNotez™ to main memory. Tap No to select where DayNotez™ should be installed. Your choices in this case will be main memory or any of the device's storage cards.

ss_hint Tip: When ActiveSync Application Manager begins installing software on the Pocket PC, be sure to check the installation status on the Pocket PC. Windows Mobile 5 devices will prompt the user whenever an unsigned cab file is installed. Tap Yes when asked "The program is from an unknown publisher, You should install it only if you trust its publisher. Do you want to continue?". Also Windows Mobile 2003 SE devices will prompt during the SQL Server Compact install that "The program you have installed may not display properly because it was designed for a previous version of Windows Mobile software". Tap Yes to continue.

 

       If this step takes a long time (more than five (5) minutes), check that the DayNotez™ application has been launched after the installation finished on the handheld. This will create the DayNotez™ database, a step that is required before DayNotez™ synchronization can run.

 

If the wizard does not progress beyond the last "Syncing DayNotez data" step, the installation is complete and it is safe to exit the wizard while the sync issue is addressed. If DayNotez™ is running on your handheld but the DayNotez™ sync is not completing, try resetting the handheld and sync again. If that does not help, try rebooting the PC.

9.Once the wizard finishes, DayNotez™ will automatically start on the Pocket PC. If the DayNotez™ Desktop application and synchronization support component was chosen (the default), DayNotez™ will also be started on your PC.
