How Do I.... > Recover database when I've forgotten password
DayNotez™DayNotez™forgotten your password there is no provision to clear the password from the existing database (otherwise it would defeat the password protection feature). If you cannot remember the password you assigned you can create a new database and synchronize your notes from the desktop PC. Users who do not synchronize their DayNotez™ data will not be able to recover their notes.
| 1. | First synchronize with your desktop so you can be sure the PC contains an up-to-date copy of your notes. Even though you can't access the DayNotez™ program, all the notes will sync. |
| 2. | Using File Explorer, rename the database “\My Documents\Natara\DayNotez\DayNotezDb3.sdf” to “\My Documents\Natara\DayNotez\DayNotezDb3_WithPwd.sdf” on the Pocket PC and then start DayNotez™ on the Pocket PC. This will create a new database without any password protection.
Note: Listed here is the default location for the database. If you store your database on a storage card, your path might look like this: "\SD Card\Natara DayNotez Data\DayNotezDb3.sdf". Rename the database as described above and continue as directed. |
| 3. | Then connect the device to your desktop and all of your notes will be synchronized to your Pocket PC. During the synchronization process you will be asked to combine or discard your handheld entries. While either option will work, choose the combine option. This is particularly important if you're traveling and don't have access to your desktop. You can start a new database and add new notes. When you get back to your main desktop you will sync and combine your former notes with these new ones. |
| 4. | Once you have verified your data is back on the Pocket PC, it is safe to delete the renamed database file. |
