1.0 General
============================================================
Thank you for purchasing Natara DayNotez. We hope you
find this application a useful extension to your handheld
device.
DayNotez installs in a 30 day evaluation mode. The
full product feature set is available for your use. After
30 days the ability to open the DayNotez application is
disabled until a product registration code is entered.
You can purchase a license for DayNotez from the Natara web
site at:
http://www.natara.com/buynow?Product=DayNotezPPC&Retailer=Natara&Days=-2&Pt=3&Version=1.5.2.7
============================================================
2.0 Quick Start Steps
============================================================
The following steps will get you up and running with DayNotez.
1) Place your Pocket PC device in its cradle and ensure the
device has an ActiveSync connection.
2) Double-click the downloaded setup file to start the
installation wizard. Follow the wizard instructions.
3) Once the installation wizard finishes, DayNotez will
automatically start on the Pocket PC. If the DayNotez
Desktop application and synchronization support option
was chosen (the default), DayNotez will also be started
on your PC.
If you already have DayNotez installed on your PC and need
to install DayNotez to your Pocket PC, use the
"Install DayNotez on PPC OS Device" shortcut located at
Start/Programs/Natara Software.
============================================================
3.1 Upgrade from DayNotez Pocket PC 1.1.x Version
============================================================
When upgrading from the 1.1.x version, simple run the downloaded
setup. There is no need to uninstall the previous version. All
of your entered data will be preserved.
After you have installed this DayNotez version, you may uninstall
the following software from your Pocket PC by using the
"Start/Settings/System/Remove Programs" tool IF YOU ARE SURE
NO OTHER SOFTWARE ON YOUR HANDHELD REQUIRES THESE COMPONENTS:
Microsoft .NET Compact Framework
Microsoft SQLCE 2.0
Do not uninstall the SQLCE software before the upgrade is
complete as the upgrade process requires the SQLCE component
in order to upgrade the database.
Also, the database from the DayNotez 1.0 installation will not
be deleted automatically. You may delete this database
(\My Documents\Natara\DayNotezDb.sdf) from your Pocket PC. Be
sure not to delete the DayNotezDb3.sdf, which is the database
that the 1.5 software uses.
============================================================
3.2 Upgrade from DayNotez Palm Version
============================================================
DayNotez for Pocket PC may be installed on the same PC that
runs the DayNotez for Palm software. It is recommended to
install this software into the same directory as the DayNotez
Palm software. The DayNotez for Pocket PC data is synchronized
to its own database and will not automatically combine any
existing Palm data. From the DayNotez Desktop application you
can import data from your Palm/desktop database into the
Pocket PC installation by using the DayNotez Desktop
Tools/Import menu.
============================================================
4.0 Multiple PC and/or Device Support
============================================================
As standard with ActiveSync, you may synchronize your DayNotez
handheld with up to two PCs. In addition, it is possible for
multiple Pocket PC devices to share the same DayNotez Desktop
database. This can be useful when you upgrade your existing
device to another Pocket PC handheld. The first device to
connect to ActiveSync after DayNotez is installed will create
a new DayNotez database. Afterwards whenever a different
device connects to ActiveSync for the first time, DayNotez
will prompt the user to choose between creating a new database
or sharing DayNotez data with an existing ActiveSync
partnership.
============================================================
5.0 Uninstalling
============================================================
On the desktop, use the "Add/Remove Programs" Control Panel
applet to remove the "DayNotez for Pocket PC" entry.
On the Pocket PC device, use the Setting/System/Remove Programs
tool and remove "Natara Software DayNotez". You may optionally
remove the "Microsoft .NET CF 2.0", "SQLServerCompact 3.5 Core"
and "SQLServerCompact 3.5 Repl" entries as well if you are
positive no other application require these software components.
============================================================
6.0 Product Requirements
============================================================
1) PC System Requirements:
- Windows 2000, XP, 2003 Server, or Vista 32/64 bit
(may work under 98/98SE and Windows ME but is not
officially supported)
- Microsoft ActiveSync 3.7 or later (including
ActiveSync 4.x) or Windows Mobile Device Center 6.x
- Jet OLE DB driver version 4 or greater. We recommend
installing the Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC)
version 2.5 SP2 or greater. You may wish to install MDAC
2.6 or 2.7 with JET 4.0 SP3 to get an even more up to
date release.
2) Handheld Requirements:
- Windows Mobile based 2003, 2003SE, WM5 Pocket PC's
(including Pocket PC Phone Edition) or Windows Mobile
v6/v6.1 Classic and Professional devices
- Requires .NET Compact Framework 2.0 (included and
installed with DayNotez setup if not already installed)
- Requires SQL Server Compact v3.5 SP1 (included and installed
with DayNotez setup if not already installed)
- Approximately 995KB free storage space minimum; addition
space will be required if the device does not have the NETCF
and SQL Server Compact components installed taking up to
another 2.5 MB of storage. In addition, DayNotez requires
approximately 4 MB of free program space to run.
- DayNotez, .NET Compact Framework 2.0 and SQL Server Compact
components can be installed to a storage card.
============================================================
6.1 Product Limitations
============================================================
1) Microsoft RichInk.dll
This product makes use of Microsoft DLLs installed with
ActiveSync and Windows Mobile Device Center software.
Certain versions of RichInk.dll will not translate ink
data accurately. If the ink object on the desktop loses
its fill color or if the ink object is lost when synchronized
to the other platform, please check this file version. The
file will be installed in the ActiveSync directory which
defaults to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync" or if
running Vista, the Windows Mobile Device Center defaults
to C:\Windows\WindowsMobile.
Version Size File Date Installs with
--------------------------------------------------------------
6.1.6965.0 206,728 05-31-2007 Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1
3.1.1.0 208,896 04-22-2005 ActiveSync 4.1, 4.5
3.1.0.9558 200,789 12-06-2004 ActiveSync 3.6, 3.7, 3.71, 3.8
3.1.1.1038 208,979 02-07-2001 Unknown
Testing has shown that the 3.1.0.9558 seems to be the best
at being able to handle formatted text and ink most accurately.
Note that the 3.1.1.1038 is quite old but version-wise
appears to be the newest. Installing newer ActiveSync versions
WILL NOT update this DLL.
If you have the 3.1.1.1038 version, delete this file and
reinstall/update to ActiveSync 3.8 (or ActiveSync 4.5 if
running a 4.0/4.1 version) to update this file.
The 3.1.1.0 version shipped with ActiveSync 4.1/4.5 may cause
display issues such that ink objects having a fill color
will be displayed as transparent. If you have access to
the 3.1.0.9558 version from a ActiveSync 3.x installation,
it is possible to copy this file into a 4.1 installation.
It is also possible to insert graphic objects on the desktop
and sync to the handheld. The 3.1.1.0 version of RichInk.dll
will handling these graphic objects to and from the handheld
device. Older versions have not been tested. The 6.1.6965.0
will unfortunately omit the entire graphic object. Therefore,
use of graphics in DayNotez with Vista/WMDC is not recommended.
This does not apply to ink objects.
2) Microsoft InkObj.dll
DayNotez Desktop is incompatible with InkObj.dll v1.0.1038.0
and may generate a "Floating point division by zero" error
under certain conditions. The DLL is usually installed in the
"c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\ink" folder.
To work around this, install a newer version of this DLL.
Installing Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer 1.5 will update
this DLL and can be downloaded at:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=fad44098-8b73-4e06-96d4-d1eb70eacb44&DisplayLang=en
Once the Journal Viewer is installed, it is safe to uninstall
the Viewer as the updated InkObj.dll will remain. If you do
not have this file installed there is no need to take any
action (DayNotez will function without this DLL installed).
3) Requires newer Compact Framework
When starting DayNotez, you may receive an error stating:
This application (DayNotezPPC.exe) requires a newer version
of the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework than the version
installed on this device.
Clicking the Details button, you may see:
DayNotezPPC.exe
TypeLoadException
Could not load type System.Data.Common.DbDataAdapter from
assembly System.Data.Common...
This error is the result of a missing, failed or corrupt
Microsoft SQL Server Compact installation. If you used the
PC-based setup, open the "Start/Programs/Natara Software/
Install DayNotez on PPC OS Device" shortcut. Either it will
detect the missing SQL Server Compact software and repair this,
or it will give an option to reinstall select components.
If the latter case, check the "Microsoft SQL Server Compact v3.5"
option to reinstall this component.

build 228
+ Added Strikethrough (StrikeOut) to RTF Toolbar
+ Added "Insert Template" sub-menu to main menu "Edit" and
Entry view context menus.
+ Removed main toolbar "Open DayNotez User" icon. It's use
was minimal for most users and was cluttering up the toolbar.

user, it will prompt to open a new user. This substitutes
for the removal from the toolbar.

its data.
build 226
- Fixed an issue when pasting some RTF text where the lists
would then only show the first few characters of every entry.
build 225
- Fixed print/preview not showing proper RTF formatting.
New in version 1.3.2:
+ The DayNotez database can now be located on a storage card in
addition to main memory. Use the Tools/Options menu to configure
the database location.
+ Added new menu item "Check for Update". This launches the
Natara Updater which will not only check for DayNotez
updates but also verifies dependencies like NETCF and SQL
Mobile are installed and the proper version. Please note
that if you are synchronizing to a PC, it is best to
update the PC whenever a new DayNotez for Pocket PC software
is updated via the Updater tool.
+ NETCF v2 SP1 (v2.0.6129.0) is now installed with this setup.
- Improved DayNotez/ActiveSync error handling. The ActiveSync
synchronization will no longer lockup if the SQL drivers on
the handheld are missing or corrupt.
- Changed sync code so an archived note cannot be deleted from
the desktop PC due to the sync operation where the note was
deleted from the PPC. Normally this is not an issue but devices
that sync to two PCs do not have their "non-replicated" items
automatically deleted by ActiveSync. With this change a user
can delete the item from the Pocket PC once it is marked
as archived on the PC and the note will remain on the PC.
- Fixed problem with synchronizing category names containing
a single quote character.
New in version 1.3.1:
+ DayNotez now uses the new .NET Compact Framework and requires
NETCF v2 and SQL Mobile v3 software.
